Every time I look at a Helichrysum flower I feel a overwhelming feeling of happiness flow over me. To the point that we have planted it in every hook and cranny of our homestead garden and over time it has self-seeded itself. Supplying us with an endless array of sun-loving yellow joy which grows and then flowers over the summer & spring seasons.
So many of you have watched us work with helichrysum and fallen in love with the flowers, how can you not. We often get asked about seed availability.
All you’ll ever need is just one pack of our helilchrysum seeds for home gardening! If you want to share the love of these bright yellow golden flowers in many places of your garden, we recommend a few seed packs to make impact.
Their are about about 240 species of Helichrysum, all of which are indigenous to South Africa.
Helichyrusum is a biennial aromatic herb that grows in grasslands. “Biennial = herbaceous flowering plant that completes its life cycle in two growing seasons.” The word Helichrysum is derived from the Greek words helios, sun, and chrysos, gold.
Sprinkle the seeds in the desired part of your garden. Germination begins when the first rains of spring start. However if you are eager to get planting sooner than later? this is ok, you may get a autumn/ late winter flowering flush. Patience is the key
Each seed pack contains about 30g of Helichrysum ruderale seeds.
Happy planting!
Harness helichrysum’s skin-loving potential, our Immortelle Face Balm, crafted with the flower heads of helichrysum offers a skin barrier protection.
